Moon Phase

Waxing Gibbous

Waxing Gibbous

The waxing gibbous is the phase between first quarter and full moon, when more than half of the moon's face is illuminated but it has not yet reached full brightness. 'Gibbous' comes from the Latin for 'humped' โ€” a visual description of the moon's shape during this phase. It dominates the evening and early-morning sky and is bright enough to cast strong shadows outdoors.
