A versatile and durable forward, he carved out a long NRL career defined by reliability and a team-first approach across multiple clubs.
Will Matthews' rugby league journey is a testament to the value of a hard-working utility forward. Hailing from the Gold Coast, he debuted for the St. George Illawarra Dragons in 2009 but found his most consistent footing with the Gold Coast Titans, where he played over 100 NRL games. Matthews wasn't a flashy star but a coach's dream: capable of playing in the front or back row, making his tackles, and hitting the ball up with dependable effort. His resilience was notable, often playing through pain and rarely missing time to injury. After a stint with the North Queensland Cowboys, his career came full circle with a final season back at the Dragons, closing out a solid, unassuming 12-year stint in the top grade.
