A pragmatic Labor politician who rose from environmental activism to become Queensland's premier, steering the state through post-pandemic challenges.
Steven Miles's political career is rooted in the practicalities of policy rather than the theatrics of parliament. Before entering politics, he cut his teeth as an environmental activist and policy advisor, giving him a grounded, issue-focused approach. Elected to the Queensland parliament in 2015, he quickly gained a reputation as a competent minister, handling complex portfolios like Environment, Health, and Deputy Premier. As Deputy Premier, he was the operational counterpart to Annastacia Palaszczuk's leadership, often tasked with managing detailed crises like health system pressures. His ascent to the premiership in 2023 was a handover of the baton within the Labor party. His brief tenure was defined by addressing housing affordability and cost-of-living pressures, aiming to translate his policy expertise into tangible relief for Queenslanders before his government was defeated in the 2024 election.

The latchkey kids. Raised during divorce, recession, and the end of the Cold War. Skeptical, self-reliant, media-literate. They invented indie culture, grunge, and the early internet — then watched the Boomers take credit.
Steven was born in 1977, placing them squarely in the Generation X. The events that shaped this generation — economic uncertainty, the end of the Cold War, and the rise of personal computing — shaped the world they entered and the choices available to them.
