A powerhouse WWE wrestler turned Hollywood stuntman whose final act of heroism, saving his son from a riptide, defined his legacy.
Shad Gaspard was a mountain of a man whose presence was felt in the wrestling ring and on the movie screen. He broke into WWE as one-half of Cryme Tyme, a tag team with JTG that brought streetwise charisma and athletic power to the roster, becoming fan favorites. His physicality and work ethic seamlessly transitioned him into a second career as a stunt performer and actor, landing roles in major films like 'Get Smart' and 'The Dark Knight Rises.' Gaspard's life, however, is ultimately framed by his tragic death in 2020. While swimming with his young son off a Venice Beach, California, they were caught in a powerful riptide. As rescuers arrived, Gaspard made the ultimate sacrifice, pointing to his son and insisting, 'Save my son first.' His directive was followed, and his son was rescued, but Gaspard was swept away. He is remembered not just as an entertainer, but as a hero whose final moments embodied profound courage and paternal love.

Shad was born in 1981, placing them squarely in the Millennials. The events that shaped this generation — the internet revolution, 9/11, and the 2008 financial crisis — shaped the world they entered and the choices available to them.
