A powerful and versatile centre from the Welsh valleys, he has become a defensive rock and creative force for both club and country.
Owen Watkin's rugby story is woven into the fabric of Welsh club rugby, beginning at his local Ogmore Vale RFC. His talent was evident early, leading him through the Ospreys development pathway until he exploded onto the professional scene with a try-scoring debut in 2015. Standing at 6'3" and over 230 pounds, Watkin combines formidable physicality with a surprising subtlety of hands and vision. He carved out his place in the Ospreys midfield as a player known for his defensive grit, often shutting down the opposition's most dangerous attackers, while also possessing the soft skills to create opportunities. His consistent performances earned him a Wales debut in 2017, and he has since been a regular in the national squad, contributing during campaigns like the 2019 Rugby World Cup. Watkin represents a modern breed of centre: not purely a crash-ball runner or a playmaker, but a hybrid who can excel at both the brutal and beautiful aspects of the game.
