A versatile American reliever with a deceptive sidearm delivery who became a durable bullpen pillar for the Baltimore Orioles.
Mychal Givens threw 60-plus innings in four separate MLB seasons after converting from shortstop to pitcher. The Baltimore Orioles drafted him in 2009 as an infielder, but his arm strength pushed the organization to move him to the mound during minor league development. He adopted a low three-quarters delivery that gave right-handed batters persistent trouble. Givens debuted with Baltimore in 2015 and quickly settled into a setup role, handling high-leverage situations with a calm approach. For several years he remained a constant presence in a frequently changing Orioles bullpen. His reliability made him a trade deadline target later in his career, sending him to contenders including the Cincinnati Reds and New York Mets. Givens built a major league career from a position change and a specialized skill set.

The first digital natives. Grew up with the internet, came of age during 9/11 and the 2008 crash. Highly educated, deeply indebted, slower to marry and buy houses. Redefined work, identity, and what it means to be an adult.
Mychal was born in 1990, placing them squarely in the Millennials. The events that shaped this generation — the internet revolution, 9/11, and the 2008 financial crisis — shaped the world they entered and the choices available to them.
