A British politician whose career has been a dramatic journey across party lines, defined by her vocal advocacy on mental health and against antisemitism.
Luciana Berger's political life has been anything but static. Elected as a Labour MP for Liverpool Wavertree in 2010, she quickly established herself as a passionate campaigner, notably serving as Shadow Minister for Mental Health. Her tenure, however, became defined by a painful confrontation with the rise of antisemitism within her own party. Subject to horrific online abuse and threats, she took a courageous and controversial stand in 2019, leaving Labour to help found The Independent Group. This began a remarkable political odyssey that saw her briefly join the Liberal Democrats before ultimately returning to a reformed Labour Party in 2023. Through all the turbulence, her policy focus remained steadfast. Her work in Parliament helped push mental health services higher on the national agenda, and her personal resilience in the face of hatred made her a significant figure in the fight against political extremism. In 2025, she entered the House of Lords, continuing her advocacy from the red benches.

Luciana was born in 1981, placing them squarely in the Millennials. The events that shaped this generation — the internet revolution, 9/11, and the 2008 financial crisis — shaped the world they entered and the choices available to them.
