She transformed from a pampered sitcom princess into a champion for Black history, founding a non-profit to share forgotten stories.
Karyn Parsons first imprinted herself on the cultural landscape as the hilariously shallow Hilary Banks on 'The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air,' a role that defined 90s television for a generation. But her trajectory took a purposeful turn away from the spotlight. After the show ended, she moved behind the camera, producing documentaries and founding the non-profit Sweet Blackberry. This organization, born from a desire to educate her own children, creates animated films that bring little-known stories of African American achievement to young audiences. Parsons has authored children's books and continues to act, but her lasting impact is as a storyteller dedicated to excavating and celebrating a richer, more complete history.

The latchkey kids. Raised during divorce, recession, and the end of the Cold War. Skeptical, self-reliant, media-literate. They invented indie culture, grunge, and the early internet — then watched the Boomers take credit.
Karyn was born in 1966, placing them squarely in the Generation X. The events that shaped this generation — economic uncertainty, the end of the Cold War, and the rise of personal computing — shaped the world they entered and the choices available to them.
