A Canberra junior product whose promising NRL career as a dynamic outside back has been hampered by persistent injury setbacks.
Harley Smith-Shields's path to the NRL was one of bright promise. A standout in the Canberra Raiders' development system, he captained the club's junior representative sides and was marked for a long future in green. His first-grade debut in 2021 showcased his speed and finishing ability on the wing. However, his career trajectory was brutally interrupted by consecutive ACL tears, devastating injuries that sidelined him for entire seasons. After a difficult recovery and a handful of comeback games, he made a fresh start with the Gold Coast Titans in 2024, aiming to reclaim the potential that made him one of the most talked-about young backs in the game just a few years prior.

Harley was born in 2000, placing them squarely in the Generation Z. The events that shaped this generation — social media, climate anxiety, and a pandemic — shaped the world they entered and the choices available to them.
