A cerebral and fiercely competitive scrum-half who captained Scotland a record 39 times, steering his nation with pinpoint kicking and unshakeable grit.
Greig Laidlaw's story is one of proving his worth from the Scottish borders to the world stage. Not the most physically imposing player, he compensated with razor-sharp game management, relentless work ethic, and a metronomic boot from the tee. His club career took him from Edinburgh to Gloucester in England and then to France's ASM Clermont Auvergne, where he honed his control. For Scotland, he became indispensable, first as a precise goal-kicker and then as captain, a role he held more than any other man. He led from the front in famous victories, including the 2015 World Cup win over Japan and the 2018 Calcutta Cup triumph. His leadership and consistency were ultimately recognized with a selection for the 2017 British & Irish Lions tour to New Zealand, capping a career built on intelligence and resolve.
