A once-touted Israeli wonderkid whose career, which began at Barcelona's famed La Masia, became a globe-trotting quest for fulfillment.
Gai Assulin became the first Israeli to sign for FC Barcelona as a teenager, joining their La Masia academy. The left-footed midfielder trained with Lionel Messi and played for Barcelona's B team, earning a senior debut in the Copa del Rey. Born in 1991, he was once considered the great hope of Israeli football. But the path to Camp Nou's first team proved elusive. Assulin then moved to Manchester City, followed by loans in England and Spain, and subsequent journeys through leagues in Israel, Greece, Kazakhstan, and Italy's lower tiers. His career reflects the challenging reality for many prodigies and the enduring global search for a place to play the beautiful game. It did not reach the stratospheric heights once predicted, yet his trajectory remains a specific story of talent, opportunity, and adaptation across European and Asian football.

The first digital natives. Grew up with the internet, came of age during 9/11 and the 2008 crash. Highly educated, deeply indebted, slower to marry and buy houses. Redefined work, identity, and what it means to be an adult.
Gai was born in 1991, placing them squarely in the Millennials. The events that shaped this generation — the internet revolution, 9/11, and the 2008 financial crisis — shaped the world they entered and the choices available to them.
