A Cypriot internet prankster turned political disruptor, who parlayed a massive YouTube following into a shock seat in the European Parliament.
Fidias Panayiotou, known mononymously online, executed perhaps his most audacious stunt not on camera, but at the ballot box. The Greek-Cypriot YouTuber, born in 2000, built a following of millions with irreverent, often controversial prank and vlog content. In 2024, with a platform built on notoriety rather than policy, he announced a satirical-yet-serious run for the European Parliament. Capitalizing on widespread disillusionment and anti-establishment sentiment, his slogan—'I have no idea what I'm doing, but neither do they'—struck a chord. Against all expectations, he won a seat. Transitioning from prankster to MEP, he founded the Direct Democracy Cyprus party, advocating for liquid democracy and direct citizen votes via an app. His presence in Strasbourg is a case study in the collision of internet culture and institutional politics, a protest vote made flesh, now grappling with the realities of lawmaking.

Born into smartphones, social media, and school shootings. The most diverse generation in history. Pragmatic about money, fluid about identity, anxious about the climate. They do not remember a world before the internet.
Fidias was born in 2000, placing them squarely in the Generation Z. The events that shaped this generation — social media, climate anxiety, and a pandemic — shaped the world they entered and the choices available to them.
