A Greek chess grandmaster who shifted his focus from elite play to becoming one of the world's most respected trainers and authors.
Efstratios Grivas's career is a masterclass in evolving a deep passion into multifaceted expertise. As a player, he earned the Grandmaster title, representing Greece in numerous Olympiads and carving a respectable place in European chess. However, his lasting impact stems from his second act. Grivas dedicated himself to coaching, rising to the elite rank of FIDE Senior Trainer. His analytical mind found a perfect outlet in writing; he is the author of a vast library of instructional books, particularly on chess strategy and endgames, which are studied by club players and grandmasters alike. Serving also as an International Arbiter and Organizer, Grivas has shaped the game from every possible angle, ensuring its integrity and passing his knowledge to generations of new players.

The latchkey kids. Raised during divorce, recession, and the end of the Cold War. Skeptical, self-reliant, media-literate. They invented indie culture, grunge, and the early internet — then watched the Boomers take credit.
Efstratios was born in 1966, placing them squarely in the Generation X. The events that shaped this generation — economic uncertainty, the end of the Cold War, and the rise of personal computing — shaped the world they entered and the choices available to them.
