Biography

Adam Loewen's baseball journey is a tale of two professions. Drafted fourth overall in 2002 by the Baltimore Orioles, the left-hander from British Columbia was touted as a future ace. His pitching career showed flashes of promise but was derailed by a persistent stress fracture in his elbow. Faced with the end of his playing days, Loewen refused to leave the diamond. In an extraordinary pivot, he taught himself to hit full-time, transitioning to the outfield and first base. Through years in the minors, he rebuilt his swing and reputation, earning a second call-up to the majors—this time as a position player for the Toronto Blue Jays in 2015. While never an All-Star, his tenacity made him a unique figure in modern baseball: a first-round pitcher who willed himself into a second act as a big-league batter.

Millennials

1981–1996

The first digital natives. Grew up with the internet, came of age during 9/11 and the 2008 crash. Highly educated, deeply indebted, slower to marry and buy houses. Redefined work, identity, and what it means to be an adult.

Adam was born in 1984, placing them squarely in the Millennials. The events that shaped this generation — the internet revolution, 9/11, and the 2008 financial crisis — shaped the world they entered and the choices available to them.
