Cancer
Cancer is the crab — soft on the inside, armored on the outside, and sideways in its approach to almost everything. Ruled by the Moon, the planet of emotion and memory, Cancer feels things before it thinks them. They are the nurturers, the historians, the people who remember what you said three years ago and whether you meant it. Their loyalty is fierce and their grudges are permanent. A Cancer's home is not a place — it is a country, and they defend its borders.
Why Cancer?
Cancer (Jun 21 – Jul 22) was associated by the Greeks with the crab that Hera sent to distract Hercules during his battle with the Hydra. The crab was crushed but rewarded with a place in the heavens. Its timing at the summer solstice — when the sun reaches its highest point and then retreats — gives the sign its association with home and return.
