A versatile and skilled 6'11 forward whose All-Star peak was a bright spot for the early Minnesota Timberwolves before injuries altered his trajectory.
Tom Gugliotta arrived in the NBA from NC State with the smooth, all-around game of a forward built for the modern era, just a few years early. At 6'11, 'Googs' could handle the ball, shoot from outside, and pass with a guard's flair, making him a coveted talent. His career was a journey through the league's middle class, with stops in Washington, Golden State, and Phoenix, but his zenith came with the Minnesota Timberwolves. Alongside a young Kevin Garnett, Gugliotta formed a dynamic frontcourt and earned an All-Star nod in 1997, averaging over 20 points and 9 rebounds that season. His story, however, is also one of resilience and misfortune. A severe ankle injury in 1999 and a life-threatening reaction to supplements in 1999 dramatically slowed his prime. He reinvented himself as a valuable role player for several more seasons, his high basketball IQ allowing him to contribute long after his athletic peak had passed.

The latchkey kids. Raised during divorce, recession, and the end of the Cold War. Skeptical, self-reliant, media-literate. They invented indie culture, grunge, and the early internet — then watched the Boomers take credit.
Tom was born in 1969, placing them squarely in the Generation X. The events that shaped this generation — economic uncertainty, the end of the Cold War, and the rise of personal computing — shaped the world they entered and the choices available to them.
