Kevin Garnett won the NBA MVP in 2004, averaging 24.2 points, 13.9 rebounds, and 5.0 assists per game. Drafted fifth overall in 1995 out of Farragut Academy, he became the first player in two decades to jump straight from high school to the NBA. In Minnesota, he led the Timberwolves to eight straight playoff appearances and the 2004 Western Conference Finals. The 2007 trade to Boston paired him with Paul Pierce and Ray Allen. Garnett won Defensive Player of the Year in 2008 and anchored a Celtics defense that won the NBA championship that season. He played with emotional intensity that defined his career.
