A foundational architect of the UK's electronic music scene, she fused classical training with dancefloor energy as the musical engine of Faithless.
Born Ayalah Deborah Bentovim in London, Sister Bliss found her first language in music at the piano, studying classically before the pulse of house and techno captured her imagination. In the early 90s, her path converged with that of producer Rollo Armstrong, forming a creative partnership that would become the bedrock of the seminal group Faithless. While Rollo provided the conceptual framework, Bliss was the musical alchemist, her keyboard melodies and soaring string arrangements giving tracks like 'Insomnia' and 'God Is a DJ' their emotional heft and anthemic quality. Beyond the band, she built a parallel legacy as a formidable DJ, holding down a legendary 13-year residency at London's Ministry of Sound and releasing mix compilations that showcased her seamless, energetic style. Her work has consistently championed the idea that dance music can be both physically exhilarating and deeply soulful.

The latchkey kids. Raised during divorce, recession, and the end of the Cold War. Skeptical, self-reliant, media-literate. They invented indie culture, grunge, and the early internet — then watched the Boomers take credit.
Sister was born in 1971, placing them squarely in the Generation X. The events that shaped this generation — economic uncertainty, the end of the Cold War, and the rise of personal computing — shaped the world they entered and the choices available to them.

She is a classically trained pianist who attended the Guildhall School of Music and Drama.
Her stage name was inspired by a nun who taught her at school and the feeling of 'bliss' she gets from music.
She composed and performed the string arrangements on many of Faithless's biggest tracks.
“The dancefloor is the most unpretentious place on earth. It's the one place you can lose yourself and find yourself at the same time.”
