A Russian basketball lifer who tasted the NBA before returning home to become a cornerstone and captain for one of Europe's top clubs.
The Cleveland Cavaliers selected Sergey Karasev with the 19th pick in the 2013 NBA Draft. The son of a famed Russian coach and player, he had turned professional as a teenager in his homeland, showing smooth shooting and high basketball IQ. Stints with the Cavs and Brooklyn Nets gave him experience but few consistent minutes. Returning to Europe, he joined Zenit Saint Petersburg and evolved into the team's leader and captain. His game matured into that of a versatile forward and clutch performer. He guided Zenit to domestic and continental titles, becoming a pillar of Russian basketball.

Sergey was born in 1993, placing them squarely in the Millennials. The events that shaped this generation — the internet revolution, 9/11, and the 2008 financial crisis — shaped the world they entered and the choices available to them.
