A mountainous prop whose brute strength and longevity anchored the Springboks' scrum through two World Cup victories a decade apart.
Os du Randt was not just a rugby player; he was a force of nature, a human bulwark whose presence in the front row spelled security for South Africa. Emerging from the Free State, his power was raw and undeniable, making his Springbok debut in 1994. He became the immovable object in the pack that powered South Africa to its emotional 1995 Rugby World Cup triumph on home soil. After battling serious knee injuries that threatened his career, his return to the national side was a testament to sheer will. His second act was perhaps more impressive: a decade after his first World Cup, a fitter, wiser Du Randt was the cornerstone of the 2007 winning team, his scrummaging mastery undimmed. He retired as the most-capped Springbok forward of his era, a symbol of enduring power and South African rugby grit.

The latchkey kids. Raised during divorce, recession, and the end of the Cold War. Skeptical, self-reliant, media-literate. They invented indie culture, grunge, and the early internet — then watched the Boomers take credit.
Os was born in 1972, placing them squarely in the Generation X. The events that shaped this generation — economic uncertainty, the end of the Cold War, and the rise of personal computing — shaped the world they entered and the choices available to them.

His nickname 'Os' is Afrikaans for 'ox', a fitting moniker for his strength and endurance.
He is one of only two South Africans (alongside Frans Steyn) to have won two Rugby World Cup winner's medals.
Du Randt initially retired in 2000 due to a chronic knee injury but made a successful comeback to top-level rugby in 2004.
He served as a scrummaging consultant for the Springboks after his retirement.
“You don't win scrums with finesse; you win them with force and a clear mind.”
