An Israeli basketball savant who transitioned from a crafty, championship-winning point guard to a demanding, trophy-laden head coach.
Oded Kattash’s basketball life is a story of two distinct, successful acts. As a player, the 6'4" point guard was a cerebral floor general for Maccabi Tel Aviv and Hapoel Jerusalem, known for his slick passing and clutch shooting, earning domestic MVP honors in 1998. His playing pinnacle came with Panathinaikos in Greece, where he was a key piece in their 2000 EuroLeague championship run. Retirement didn’t dim his influence; it redirected it. Kattash swiftly moved into coaching, applying his deep understanding of the game to mold teams in his intense, detail-oriented image. After success with Hapoel Eilat, he returned to Maccabi Tel Aviv as head coach, where he has overseen a period of domestic dominance, securing multiple Israeli League titles and re-establishing the club as a European force. His journey mirrors that of the sport’s great minds: a student of the game who became one of its most respected teachers.

The latchkey kids. Raised during divorce, recession, and the end of the Cold War. Skeptical, self-reliant, media-literate. They invented indie culture, grunge, and the early internet — then watched the Boomers take credit.
Oded was born in 1974, placing them squarely in the Generation X. The events that shaped this generation — economic uncertainty, the end of the Cold War, and the rise of personal computing — shaped the world they entered and the choices available to them.
