A graceful and expressive ice dancer who, with partner Alexander Gazsi, revived German ice dancing with their innovative programs and dramatic flair.
Nelli Zhiganshina brought a distinct theatricality to the ice, forming one of Germany's most successful dance teams with Alexander Gazsi. Born in Moscow, she found her competitive home in Germany, where the pair became six-time national champions and fixtures on the European and world stage. Known for their unconventional music choices and character-driven programs—from a haunting 'Addams Family' routine to a spirited Russian folk dance—they pushed creative boundaries. While a podium finish at a major championship eluded them, their consistent top-ten finishes helped re-establish Germany as a credible force in ice dancing. Their career was a masterclass in building a distinct identity and lasting partnership in a demanding sport.

Nelli was born in 1987, placing them squarely in the Millennials. The events that shaped this generation — the internet revolution, 9/11, and the 2008 financial crisis — shaped the world they entered and the choices available to them.
