The quiet musical architect behind The Wiggles, whose guitar riffs and songwriting defined the soundtracks of a global childhood phenomenon.
Murray Cook, clad in his signature red skivvy, was far more than a friendly face on children’s television. As a founding member of The Wiggles in 1991, his musicianship provided the bedrock of the group’s infectious sound. A skilled guitarist and songwriter, Cook co-wrote countless earworms that blended rock, pop, and folk into a deceptively sophisticated package for young ears. His stage persona was calm and steady, a perfect counterbalance to the more exuberant antics of his colleagues. After retiring from performing with the group in 2012, he didn’t leave the music behind, shifting into roles as a tour manager and remaining involved in creative production. Beyond the world of fruit salads and big red cars, Cook has maintained a vibrant musical life, playing in soul and rock bands, proving his artistry was never confined to the preschool stage.
