A gifted passer whose brilliant college career at UConn couldn't quite translate into a lasting NBA legacy.
Marcus Williams arrived at the University of Connecticut as a heralded playmaker and left as one of the most deft passers in the program's storied history. Running the point for teams stacked with future pros, his vision and unselfishness were the engine of their success. Drafted in the first round by the New Jersey Nets in 2006, he showed flashes of that same court generalship. Yet, in a league increasingly obsessed with athleticism, Williams's deliberate pace and defensive limitations became hurdles. After a few seasons bouncing between NBA teams, he embarked on a long and successful overseas career, becoming a star in leagues across Europe and Asia, proving his basketball IQ translated anywhere the game is played, even if his NBA stay was brief.

Marcus was born in 1985, placing them squarely in the Millennials. The events that shaped this generation — the internet revolution, 9/11, and the 2008 financial crisis — shaped the world they entered and the choices available to them.
