A dazzling Spanish talent in motorcycle racing's junior categories, whose promising career was tragically cut short during a practice session.
Luis Salom was a rider whose smile and speed made him a beloved figure in the MotoGP paddock. Hailing from Mallorca, he rose through the fiercely competitive Moto3 class, battling future superstars like Maverick Viñales and Álex Rins. In 2012 and 2013, he was a constant title threat, racking up nine race wins and finishing on the championship podium in consecutive seasons. His aggressive yet stylish riding made every race he started an event. Moving up to Moto2 in 2014, he worked to adapt his style to the heavier, more powerful machinery, securing podium finishes and demonstrating his growing maturity. In June 2016, during a practice session for his home Grand Prix in Barcelona, a high-speed accident claimed his life. The loss sent shockwaves through the sport, leading to immediate track modifications for safety. Salom is remembered not just for his results, but for the passion and joy he brought to the circuit.
