Latvia's premier multi-event talent, whose graceful strength in the heptathlon took her to the very brink of an Olympic podium.
Laura Ikauniece emerged from the Latvian town of Valmiera to become one of the most elegant and powerful heptathletes of her generation. Her career was defined by a consistent rise to the world's elite, combining speed in the hurdles, precision in the javelin, and grit in the 800 meters. The 2016 Rio Olympics became her defining moment, where a spectacular personal best performance placed her fourth, just 15 points shy of a bronze medal, in one of the closest finishes in the event's history. Earlier, she had secured major championship medals at the European and World levels, setting national records that still stand. Though persistent injuries later hampered her trajectory, her Rio performance remains a landmark achievement for Latvian athletics.

The first digital natives. Grew up with the internet, came of age during 9/11 and the 2008 crash. Highly educated, deeply indebted, slower to marry and buy houses. Redefined work, identity, and what it means to be an adult.
Laura was born in 1992, placing them squarely in the Millennials. The events that shaped this generation — the internet revolution, 9/11, and the 2008 financial crisis — shaped the world they entered and the choices available to them.
