An Indian racing pioneer who broke into Formula One and later became the articulate voice of the sport for a new generation of fans.
Karun Chandhok carried the hopes of a nation each time he buckled into a Formula One cockpit. Hailing from a country with minimal motorsport tradition, his journey to the grid was a monumental feat of talent and determination, forged through the European junior formulae. His F1 debut with HRT in 2010 was historic, making him only the second Indian driver to race in the championship. While his stint was brief, spanning just 11 Grands Prix with uncompetitive cars, his achievement was in simply getting there. Chandhok's greater impact may have come after he hung up his helmet. He seamlessly transitioned into broadcasting, becoming a knowledgeable and charismatic commentator for Formula 1 and other series. His technical insight, clear explanations, and palpable passion have made him a vital link between the complex world of F1 and its growing global audience, particularly in Asia.

Karun was born in 1984, placing them squarely in the Millennials. The events that shaped this generation — the internet revolution, 9/11, and the 2008 financial crisis — shaped the world they entered and the choices available to them.
