The co-founding guitarist and production architect behind Motion City Soundtrack, whose catchy, neurotic pop-punk anthems defined a generation's anxiety.
Joshua Cain, alongside his friend Justin Pierre, built Motion City Soundtrack from the ground up in the Minneapolis basement scene of the late 1990s. More than just the band's lead guitarist, Cain served as its musical anchor and, later, its in-house producer, shaping their distinct blend of punk energy, new-wave synthesizers, and brutally honest lyrics. His guitar work provided the urgent, melodic backbone for hits like 'Everything Is Alright,' while his production sensibilities helped the band achieve a cleaner, more dynamic sound on later albums without sacrificing their raw emotional core. Cain's role often placed him behind the console for other artists, applying his keen ear for hooks and arrangement to projects beyond his own band. His story is one of DIY ethos meeting mainstream success, proving that artistic control and heartfelt songcraft could resonate on a major label stage.

The latchkey kids. Raised during divorce, recession, and the end of the Cold War. Skeptical, self-reliant, media-literate. They invented indie culture, grunge, and the early internet — then watched the Boomers take credit.
Joshua was born in 1976, placing them squarely in the Generation X. The events that shaped this generation — economic uncertainty, the end of the Cold War, and the rise of personal computing — shaped the world they entered and the choices available to them.
