A rugby league prop whose courageous battle with cancer inspired a lasting trophy contested annually by his former clubs.
Jon Mannah's story is one of talent shadowed by profound resilience. The Sydney-born forward debuted for the Cronulla-Sutherland Sharks in 2009, known for his powerful runs and unyielding work ethic in the front row. His career, promising as it was, became defined by an off-field struggle when he was diagnosed with Hodgkin's lymphoma in 2009. After treatment, he made a remarkable return to the NRL, signing with the Parramatta Eels in 2012. His comeback was tragically brief; the cancer returned, and he passed away in January 2013 at just 23. His legacy, however, was cemented immediately. The Johnny Mannah Cup was established that same year, an annual clash between the Sharks and Eels that transforms a regular season game into a tribute to his character and fighting spirit, ensuring his memory fuels the competition he loved.

Jon was born in 1989, placing them squarely in the Millennials. The events that shaped this generation — the internet revolution, 9/11, and the 2008 financial crisis — shaped the world they entered and the choices available to them.
