A pragmatic Liberal Democrat who broke ground as Cardiff Central's first female MP, navigating coalition politics to champion business and equality.
Jenny Willott’s political journey began not in Wales but in London, where she cut her teeth as a local councillor in Merton. Her 2005 election victory in Cardiff Central was historic, flipping a seat that had never before sent a woman or a Liberal Democrat to Westminster. For a decade, she represented the university-heavy constituency with a focus on student issues and economic fairness. Her most significant governmental role came during the 2010-2015 coalition, when she stepped into a junior ministerial post covering business and equalities, a role that balanced pragmatic governance with her party's social liberal values. After leaving Parliament, she transitioned into public service oversight, bringing her political acumen to roles scrutinizing the intelligence services and the electoral commission.

The latchkey kids. Raised during divorce, recession, and the end of the Cold War. Skeptical, self-reliant, media-literate. They invented indie culture, grunge, and the early internet — then watched the Boomers take credit.
Jenny was born in 1974, placing them squarely in the Generation X. The events that shaped this generation — economic uncertainty, the end of the Cold War, and the rise of personal computing — shaped the world they entered and the choices available to them.
