A fiery and spectacular Formula One driver whose raw passion and wheel-to-wheel bravery made him a fan favorite, despite a career often shadowed by misfortune.
Jean Alesi burst onto the Formula One scene not with a whisper, but with a roar. The son of Sicilian immigrants in France, his driving style was pure Mediterranean passion—all attacking verve and dramatic overtakes. His 1989 debut for Tyrrell, where he famously dueled with Ayrton Senna, announced a major talent. The racing world expected championships, but his move to Ferrari in 1991, a dream for any driver, coincided with a fallow period for the fabled team. His sole Grand Prix victory in Canada in 1995 was an emotional release, a vindication of his skill fought for in the rain. Later years at Benetton, Sauber, and Jordan saw flashes of his old brilliance, but the ultimate prize eluded him. Yet, for fans, Alesi represented something purer than trophies: the unadulterated, heart-on-sleeve thrill of racing.

The largest generation in history at the time. Shaped by postwar prosperity, the Vietnam War, the sexual revolution, and Watergate. They questioned every institution their parents built — then ran them.
Jean was born in 1964, placing them squarely in the Baby Boomers. The events that shaped this generation — postwar prosperity, civil rights, Vietnam, and the counterculture — shaped the world they entered and the choices available to them.
