An American ice dancer who, after a late start with a new partner, swiftly climbed the ranks to compete on the world stage with elegant, sophisticated programs.
Jane Summersett's rise in the tightly knit world of ice dancing was a study in rapid synergy. A talented skater from Michigan, her competitive path found its true direction relatively late when she teamed up with Todd Gilles in 2007. Their partnership clicked with surprising speed. Within a year, they were standing on the podium at the Nebelhorn Trophy, a key international event. Summersett, known for her graceful lines and expressive interpretation, formed one half of a team celebrated for its classic style and precise technical elements. They quickly became mainstays on the U.S. international team, peaking with a seventh-place finish at the Four Continents Championships in 2010. Their career, though not long-lived, demonstrated that chemistry and hard work could compress the usual timeline for success in a discipline where partnerships often take years to mature. After retiring, Summersett transitioned seamlessly into coaching, passing on the nuances of performance and partnership to the next generation.

Jane was born in 1987, placing them squarely in the Millennials. The events that shaped this generation — the internet revolution, 9/11, and the 2008 financial crisis — shaped the world they entered and the choices available to them.
