A Slovak tennis talent who stunned the world by defeating world number one Serena Williams on the green clay of Charleston.
Jana Čepelová engineered a massive upset at the 2014 Family Circle Cup in Charleston, toppling Serena Williams in straight sets as a qualifier ranked outside the top 70. She turned professional in 2010 and quickly showed herself a fierce competitor. Riding that momentum to the final, she showcased a gritty, all-court game. While that fortnight remained her brightest moment, she consistently challenged top players and represented Slovakia in Fed Cup competition. Her powerful groundstrokes and fighting spirit made her a dangerous opponent on any given day before her retirement from the tour.

Jana was born in 1993, placing them squarely in the Millennials. The events that shaped this generation — the internet revolution, 9/11, and the 2008 financial crisis — shaped the world they entered and the choices available to them.
