A rock-solid defender who anchored the Czech Republic's back line during their unexpected and thrilling run to the Euro 1996 final.
Jan Suchopárek's career is a study in reliable, no-nonsense defending. A product of the Slavia Prague youth system, he spent the majority of his club career with his hometown team, becoming a stalwart at the heart of their defense. His consistent performances earned him a call-up to the Czechoslovakian national team, and he seamlessly transitioned to representing the Czech Republic after the split. His defining moment came in the summer of 1996. As a starting centre-back, he formed a formidable partnership with Miroslav Kadlec, providing the defensive foundation that allowed the Czechs' creative players to flourish. Their surprising journey to the final at Wembley, where they narrowly lost to Germany, remains a high point in the nation's football history. After retiring, Suchopárek moved into coaching, applying his deep understanding of the game to develop the next generation of Czech footballers.

Jan was born in 1969, placing them squarely in the Generation X. The events that shaped this generation — economic uncertainty, the end of the Cold War, and the rise of personal computing — shaped the world they entered and the choices available to them.
