A pioneering figure in motorsport who broke ground as the first Chinese driver to compete in Formula One, albeit briefly.
Ho-Pin Tung's career is a story of global ambition and symbolic firsts. Born in the Netherlands to Chinese parents, he climbed the European racing ladder, proving his speed in Formula 3 and Formula Renault. His breakthrough came in 2010 when he joined the Renault F1 team as a test driver, a role that led to a historic moment. In 2011, he became the first driver to race under a Chinese license in Formula One, participating in a practice session for the German Grand Prix. While a full-time F1 seat remained elusive, Tung established himself as a powerhouse in endurance racing, most notably as a core part of the Chinese-backed team that won the LMP2 class at the 24 Hours of Le Mans in 2017. His journey helped pave the way for greater Asian representation in the top tiers of international motorsport.
