A Venezuelan infielder who exploded onto the New York scene as a rookie, becoming a cornerstone of the Yankees' lineup with his potent bat.
Gleyber Torres was hyped as a future star from his early days in the Chicago Cubs system, but it was in New York where he truly arrived. Traded to the Yankees as a centerpiece prospect in 2016, he made his debut two years later and immediately looked like a veteran. With a smooth, powerful swing from the right side, Torres smashed 24 home runs in his first full season, earning an All-Star nod and finishing third in Rookie of the Year voting. He followed it with an even better 2019, blasting 38 homers and making his second All-Star team, establishing himself as one of the most dangerous hitting middle infielders in the game. While defensive consistency has been a journey, his offensive production and youthful exuberance made him a fan favorite in the Bronx for years, before his move to the Detroit Tigers began a new chapter.

Gleyber was born in 1996, placing them squarely in the Millennials. The events that shaped this generation — the internet revolution, 9/11, and the 2008 financial crisis — shaped the world they entered and the choices available to them.
