Biography

Ahmed Fuad II entered the world as a prince and was thrust onto a throne he would never truly occupy. Born in January 1952, his father, King Farouk, was overthrown by a military coup just six months later. In a bid to preserve the monarchy, the infant prince was declared king in July 1952, with a regency council ruling in his name. His 'reign' was a fleeting, symbolic gesture in a country rapidly transforming. By June 1953, Egypt was declared a republic, and Fuad II was deposed, never having set foot in the country as its ruling monarch. He grew up in exile in Switzerland, a living footnote to a bygone era. His life stands as a poignant symbol of the abrupt end of the Muhammad Ali dynasty, which had ruled for nearly 150 years, and the tumultuous birth of a new political age in the Arab world.

Baby Boomers

1946–1964

The largest generation in history at the time. Shaped by postwar prosperity, the Vietnam War, the sexual revolution, and Watergate. They questioned every institution their parents built — then ran them.

Fuad was born in 1952, placing them squarely in the Baby Boomers. The events that shaped this generation — postwar prosperity, civil rights, Vietnam, and the counterculture — shaped the world they entered and the choices available to them.
