A virtuoso French bassist who became the rhythmic engine of DragonForce's hyper-speed power metal before reinventing himself in the extreme metal underground.
Frédéric Leclercq became the bassist for DragonForce in 2004, the year their video game-inspired power metal reached a global audience through 'Guitar Hero.' For over a decade, he provided the complex, steady foundation beneath the band's blistering solos and fantastical themes, contributing to international hits like 'Through the Fire and Flames.' A multi-instrumentalist, Leclercq's musical range extended beyond DragonForce's high-speed style. He co-founded the extreme metal supergroup Sinsaenum, switching to guitar and songwriting, and later joined the German thrash act Kreator as their bassist. His career moved from mainstream metal success into the craft-driven circles of death and thrash metal, driven by a relentless curiosity that refused to specialize. Born in France in 1978, Leclercq's technical prowess and deep musical knowledge allowed him to navigate both the spotlight of arena tours and the intensity of underground subgenres.

The latchkey kids. Raised during divorce, recession, and the end of the Cold War. Skeptical, self-reliant, media-literate. They invented indie culture, grunge, and the early internet — then watched the Boomers take credit.
Frédéric was born in 1978, placing them squarely in the Generation X. The events that shaped this generation — economic uncertainty, the end of the Cold War, and the rise of personal computing — shaped the world they entered and the choices available to them.
