A Greek politician whose rapid rise to a European Parliament vice-presidency ended in a spectacular fall amid a major corruption scandal.
Eva Kaili's political trajectory was a shooting star that burned out in spectacular controversy. A former television news presenter with a sharp, media-savvy demeanor, she entered the European Parliament in 2014 as a member of Greece's center-left PASOK party, later aligning with the center-right New Democracy. She cultivated an image as a forward-thinking legislator focused on digital policy and innovation, a profile that led to her election as a Vice-President of the European Parliament in 2022. Her advocacy for Qatar, however, came under intense scrutiny. In December 2022, Belgian authorities arrested her as part of a sweeping investigation into alleged corruption and influence peddling by the Qatari and Moroccan governments. Stripped of her vice-presidency and expelled from her party, Kaili's story became a stark symbol of institutional corruption allegations, ending her decade in European politics under a cloud of ongoing legal proceedings.

Eva was born in 1978, placing them squarely in the Generation X. The events that shaped this generation — economic uncertainty, the end of the Cold War, and the rise of personal computing — shaped the world they entered and the choices available to them.
