A tenacious Mexican driver who raced from karting prodigy to Formula One, later carving a successful path in business and endurance racing.
Esteban Gutiérrez's path was mapped early, becoming the youngest ever champion in the Mexican National Karting Championship at age 15. His European single-seater career was a display of raw speed, culminating in the GP3 Series title in 2010. That victory became his ticket to Formula One, first as a test driver for Sauber and then as a race driver for the same team. His three seasons on the grid were tough, often in uncompetitive cars, yielding a single points finish. Pragmatic and forward-looking, he transitioned smoothly from driver to entrepreneur, founding a chain of driver training centers. He found renewed racing joy in Formula E and as a Ferrari factory driver in the World Endurance Championship, proving his talent extended far beyond his F1 results.
1981–1996
The first digital natives. Grew up with the internet, came of age during 9/11 and the 2008 crash. Highly educated, deeply indebted, slower to marry and buy houses. Redefined work, identity, and what it means to be an adult.
Esteban was born in 1991, placing them squarely in the Millennials. The events that shaped this generation — the internet revolution, 9/11, and the 2008 financial crisis — shaped the world they entered and the choices available to them.
