Biography

Jesse Williams arrived in the public eye as Dr. Jackson Avery on 'Grey's Anatomy,' but he has always been more than a heartthrob in scrubs. A former teacher in Philadelphia, he brought an educator's intellect to his acting and, more significantly, to his activism. While on the show, he became a board member of the Advancement Project and used his visibility to spotlight issues of police brutality, mass incarceration, and educational inequality. His 2016 BET Awards speech, a blistering and poetic call to action, became a cultural moment, transcending the awards show and cementing his role as a public intellectual. Behind the camera, he directed the documentary 'Stay Woke: The Black Lives Matter Movement' and made his feature directorial debut with 'The Island Between Tides.' Williams represents a model of the modern celebrity: one who treats fame not as an end, but as a microphone to amplify causes far beyond the soundstage.

Generation X

1965–1980

The latchkey kids. Raised during divorce, recession, and the end of the Cold War. Skeptical, self-reliant, media-literate. They invented indie culture, grunge, and the early internet — then watched the Boomers take credit.

Jesse was born in 1980, placing them squarely in the Generation X. The events that shaped this generation — economic uncertainty, the end of the Cold War, and the rise of personal computing — shaped the world they entered and the choices available to them.
