Biography
Jesse Williams played Dr. Jackson Avery on 'Grey's Anatomy' for over a decade, but he used that visibility to amplify activism. A former teacher in Philadelphia, he brought an educator's intellect to his work. He served on the board of the Advancement Project, spotlighting police brutality, mass incarceration, and educational inequality. His 2016 BET Awards speech became a cultural moment. Behind the camera, he directed the documentary 'Stay Woke: The Black Lives Matter Movement' and made his feature directorial debut with 'The Island Between Tides.' Williams treats fame as a microphone for causes beyond the soundstage.
