A slick-fielding Venezuelan shortstop whose defensive wizardry earned him shots in the majors and a starring role in the Korean league.
Dixon Machado's professional baseball path was defined by a golden glove. Signed by the Detroit Tigers as an international free agent at 16, he climbed through the minors not as a power hitter but as a defensive savant at shortstop, with quick hands, a strong arm, and innate infield instincts. His bat was always a question, but his glove kept pushing him forward. He finally got an extended look in the majors with the Tigers in 2017, where his elegant defense was on full display, even if his offensive output remained modest. After brief MLB stints, he found a second act and greater acclaim with the Lotte Giants in the Korea Baseball Organization. In the KBO, his all-around game flourished, and he became a fan favorite, demonstrating the global journey many talented players undertake to find their spotlight.

Dixon was born in 1992, placing them squarely in the Millennials. The events that shaped this generation — the internet revolution, 9/11, and the 2008 financial crisis — shaped the world they entered and the choices available to them.
