A hard-nosed midfielder whose career was a testament to resilience, battling through significant injuries to anchor Essendon's engine room for over a decade.
David Myers entered the AFL with the pedigree of a high draft pick, selected by Essendon with the sixth overall choice in the 2007 draft. His story, however, became one of grit and perseverance in the face of physical setbacks. Plagued by shoulder reconstructions and other injuries early on, Myers' development was repeatedly interrupted. When fit, he was a formidable presence: a big-bodied midfielder with a penetrating left-foot kick and a calm head under pressure. He carved out a crucial role as a defensive-minded onballer who could win his own ball and launch attacks from stoppages. While his career statistics may not glitter, his value to the Bombers was in his toughness and football IQ, providing stability and leadership through a tumultuous period for the club before his retirement in 2020.

David was born in 1989, placing them squarely in the Millennials. The events that shaped this generation — the internet revolution, 9/11, and the 2008 financial crisis — shaped the world they entered and the choices available to them.
