A baseball lifer from a famous MLB family who translated his gritty, versatile playing career into a respected managerial role in Cincinnati.
David Bell was born into baseball royalty—the grandson of Gus Bell and son of Buddy Bell—and has spent his entire life in the game's ecosystem. As a player, he was the definition of a blue-collar utility man, bouncing between six teams over 12 seasons and playing every infield position with gritty competence. He wasn't a star, but he was a manager's favorite: prepared, tough, and fundamentally sound. These same qualities paved his way into coaching and front-office work after retirement, with stops in St. Louis, Chicago, and San Francisco. In 2019, he returned to his family's spiritual home, Cincinnati, to become manager of the Reds. Tasked with leading a rebuild, Bell has been praised for his steady demeanor and modern approach, aiming to restore consistent contention to a historic franchise.

The latchkey kids. Raised during divorce, recession, and the end of the Cold War. Skeptical, self-reliant, media-literate. They invented indie culture, grunge, and the early internet — then watched the Boomers take credit.
David was born in 1972, placing them squarely in the Generation X. The events that shaped this generation — economic uncertainty, the end of the Cold War, and the rise of personal computing — shaped the world they entered and the choices available to them.
