A commanding Brazilian defender whose tactical intelligence and leadership anchored Lyon's historic domestic dynasty before a globe-trotting career.
Cláudio Caçapa's name, which translates loosely to 'head hunter', belied a defender whose greatest strength was his brain. Emerging from the Brazilian system with Atlético Mineiro, he made the audacious leap to French football with Olympique Lyonnais in 2001. It was there he found his destiny, becoming the defensive bedrock of one of European football's most dominant domestic forces. With his calm authority and precise positioning, he marshaled a backline that provided the platform for seven consecutive Ligue 1 titles. While not the flashiest player, his consistency and understanding of the game were priceless. After leaving Lyon, he embarked on a journeyman phase, with spells in England at Newcastle United and in Brazil, adding a Copa do Brasil title with Cruzeiro. Now a coach, he imparts the lessons of discipline and structure learned at the pinnacle of the club game.

The latchkey kids. Raised during divorce, recession, and the end of the Cold War. Skeptical, self-reliant, media-literate. They invented indie culture, grunge, and the early internet — then watched the Boomers take credit.
Cláudio was born in 1976, placing them squarely in the Generation X. The events that shaped this generation — economic uncertainty, the end of the Cold War, and the rise of personal computing — shaped the world they entered and the choices available to them.
