A post-hardcore guitarist who found a massive audience by turning inward with haunting, acoustic-driven songs of fragility and hope.
Dallas Green's musical identity is a study in compelling contrast. He first gained attention as the co-founder and melodic counterpoint in the aggressive Canadian post-hardcore band Alexisonfire, where his clean vocals cut through the sonic fury. Alongside that, he began quietly writing spare, folk-influenced songs under the alias City and Colour—a play on his name (Dallas is a city, Green a colour). What started as a bedroom project unexpectedly resonated, with his 2005 debut 'Sometimes' achieving platinum status in Canada. Green mastered the art of the hushed, devastating ballad, his warm, soulful voice delivering lyrics of heartbreak and introspection to arena-sized audiences. This dual career, balancing the cathartic scream of a band with the intimate whisper of a solo act, has defined him as one of Canada's most versatile and emotionally direct songwriters.

The latchkey kids. Raised during divorce, recession, and the end of the Cold War. Skeptical, self-reliant, media-literate. They invented indie culture, grunge, and the early internet — then watched the Boomers take credit.
City was born in 1980, placing them squarely in the Generation X. The events that shaped this generation — economic uncertainty, the end of the Cold War, and the rise of personal computing — shaped the world they entered and the choices available to them.
