A former corporate CEO who pivoted to politics, bringing a business-minded approach to the leadership of New Zealand.
Christopher Luxon's path to the Beehive was carved in the corporate world, not the political backrooms. After a long career with Unilever internationally, he returned to New Zealand in 2011 to lead its airline. As CEO of Air New Zealand from 2013, he was credited with improving its financial performance and global reputation, though his tenure also saw contentious engineering outsourcing. Entering parliament only in 2020, his rapid ascent was fueled by a National Party seeking a steady, managerial figure. Elected party leader in 2021, he led the opposition with a focus on economic efficiency and law and order. In the 2023 election, his center-right coalition secured victory, making him prime minister and placing a leader whose style is often described as pragmatic and data-driven at the country's helm.

The latchkey kids. Raised during divorce, recession, and the end of the Cold War. Skeptical, self-reliant, media-literate. They invented indie culture, grunge, and the early internet — then watched the Boomers take credit.
Christopher was born in 1970, placing them squarely in the Generation X. The events that shaped this generation — economic uncertainty, the end of the Cold War, and the rise of personal computing — shaped the world they entered and the choices available to them.
