Biography

Augie Meyers was a cornerstone of the San Antonio sound, a keyboardist whose buzzing, percussive Vox organ became instantly recognizable. As a founding member of the Sir Douglas Quintet, he helped architect a revolutionary blend of garage rock, country, and conjunto that produced 1965's 'She's About a Mover.' His playing wasn't flashy; it was rhythmic, driving, and essential. Decades later, he helped form the supergroup Texas Tornados with Doug Sahm, Freddy Fender, and Flaco Jiménez, bringing that same authentic Tex-Mex groove to a new generation and a Grammy award. Meyers was a musician's musician, a steady creative force whose work in the studio and on stage provided the gritty, soulful glue for some of American roots music's most vital recordings.

The Silent Generation

1928–1945

Born between the Depression and the end of WWII. Too young to fight, old enough to remember. They became the conformist middle managers of the 1950s — and the civil rights leaders who quietly dismantled Jim Crow.

Augie was born in 1940, placing them squarely in The Silent Generation. The events that shaped this generation — world wars, depression, and rapid industrialization — shaped the world they entered and the choices available to them.
