An American actor who broke ground as the first series regular of East Asian descent on a major U.S. network crime drama.
Archie Kao's career represents a quiet but significant shift in American television. A native of Washington D.C., he moved to Los Angeles after college, landing early roles that played on his athleticism and screen presence, most notably as the Red Galaxy Ranger in 'Power Rangers Lost Galaxy'. His breakthrough, however, came with a nine-year stint on the CBS juggernaut 'CSI: Crime Scene Investigation'. As lab technician Archie Johnson, Kao wasn't a flashy lead, but his consistent, reliable presence in the show's iconic crime lab was itself a statement. He became the first actor of East Asian descent to be a series regular on a top-rated network crime drama, a role he inhabited with a calm, tech-savvy professionalism. After 'CSI', he continued to build a diverse portfolio, including a role on 'Chicago P.D.', and expanded his work into production. While not always in the spotlight, Kao's steady, pioneering presence on one of television's most-watched shows helped normalize Asian-American faces in mainstream procedural storytelling.

The latchkey kids. Raised during divorce, recession, and the end of the Cold War. Skeptical, self-reliant, media-literate. They invented indie culture, grunge, and the early internet — then watched the Boomers take credit.
Archie was born in 1969, placing them squarely in the Generation X. The events that shaped this generation — economic uncertainty, the end of the Cold War, and the rise of personal computing — shaped the world they entered and the choices available to them.
