A Latvian heptathlon stalwart, she battled through injuries to claim European medals and inspire a generation of multi-eventers.
Aiga Grabuste's story is one of resilience etched in the seven grueling events of the heptathlon. Bursting onto the international scene as a teenager, the Latvian athlete announced her potential with a sixth-place finish at the 2006 World Junior Championships. Her career became a marathon of comebacks, repeatedly overcoming significant injuries that would have ended lesser competitors' dreams. Grabuste's finest moment came at the 2012 European Championships in Helsinki, where she pushed her compatriot Laura Ikauniece to the very end, securing a bronze medal by a mere ten-point margin. A consistent presence for Latvia, she competed in three Olympic Games, facing the world's best in Beijing, London, and Rio. Though the podium's top step eluded her at global championships, her longevity and fierce competitiveness cemented her status as a cornerstone of Baltic athletics.

Aiga was born in 1988, placing them squarely in the Millennials. The events that shaped this generation — the internet revolution, 9/11, and the 2008 financial crisis — shaped the world they entered and the choices available to them.
